Whistler Blackcomb has officially set a new resort record for snowfall! As of November 23rd, 2009, over 530 glorious centimeters (209 inches) of new snow have already fallen, with more along the way. This breaks a previous November record which dates back to 1979.

"Currently, November 2009 has seen a total accumulation of over five metres (530 cm, 207 inches) of snow, more than triple that of November's average snowfall of 148cm (58 inches)," says Anton Horvath, Whistler Mountain weather and avalanche forecaster. These recent storm cycles definitely pose challenges for the operations crews to physically get into the alpine to prepare it for skiing and riding. Crews have been working hard to get the terrain open as quickly and safely as possible, literally digging chairs out of the incredible amount of snow that's fallen. With Blackcomb Mountain opening on Thursday, the amount of terrain for people to ski and ride increases significantly which is great for all those powder hounds out there.

With over a week left in November, Environment Canada is forecasting flurries on and off through till Thursday and clouds with sunny breaks on Friday. It's shaping up to be a year to be remembered!

The good folks at Luxury Horizons will continue to keep you updated with the latest information on snowfall accumulation, ski conditions and great hotel and ski specials.
